Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare New Integrated Health Campus Elmhurst, Illinois
Currently under construction, the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital New Integrated Health Campus will be the newest hospital to have adopted the Planetree Model of Care. This model encourages caregivers to develop "healing partnerships" with their patients and provide a continual flow of information and education. The approach is holistic and encourages healing on more than just a physical level.
Currently in design, the new campus will include an 866,000 SF Acute Care Facility with 259 patient rooms and two 100,000 SF Medical Office Buildings, all connected to the existing Center for Health. In keeping with EMHC’s adoption of the Planetree philosophy, the design will be focused on the patients’ experience. To promote healing of the mind, body and spirit, the hospital will include extensive landscaping and be surrounded by green spaces, ponds and healing gardens to create a building in a garden concept.
Pratt Design Studio, as a consultant to Albert Kahn Associates, is the lead design firm responsible for the design of the building image, form and exterior as well as the interior design of all the public spaces. Pratt Design Studio is also setting the direction for the overall aesthetics including building siting, landscape, patient room design, patient unit corridor and retail components. PDS is working with the Hammes Company, EMH Leadership, Albert Khan and other Consultants in creating the overall Masterplan for the campus and detailed development of PDS scope areas. PDS is also fully responsible for the two 100,000 SF Medical Office Buildings. |

Chicago academic medical center Hospital Tower Maywood, Illinois
The recently opened Hospital Tower houses the Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine and a new entry for the existing hospital. This major expansion includes:
§ Eight Interventional Rooms including four Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, four Electrophysiology Labs and one Stereotactic MR Room
§ Noninvasive Cardiac Diagnostics spaces
§ HVC Pre/Post Procedural Bays
§ 3 tesla MRI
§ 12 Operating Rooms
§ Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit
§ Inpatient Satellite Pharmacy
§ Frozen Section Lab
§ Sterile Reprocessing Center
§ 64 Private Inpatient Units
Especially of note is the area’s first magnetic-guided navigation system for the treatment of heart conditions as well as the powerful 3 Tesla MRI.
A unique feature of this project is the integrated interventional model. In a rapidly changing healthcare environment, the ability to adapt spaces and accommodate the flow of patients is a necessity. To create this flexibility, all invasive procedures - Surgery, Cath and EP suites - were integrated into one unit creating easily adaptable spaces when needed. The interventional area includes four Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, four Electrophysiology Labs, one Stereotactic MR Room and 12 operating rooms. The suites are designed with the same central sterile access and sterile flow to allow for the most invasive cases. This model also gave the client the ability to consolidate support spaces traditionally stationed throughout the facility into one location, resulting in staff and space savings. |
