CREATIVE SOLUTION PDS worked with AKA in developing the “zoning” of the program elements from most well patients from the east to the patients requiring the most attention being located to the west. As such, the ICU, Emergency Department, Operating Rooms and Cardiac patients are located in the west zone. Women’s Services and Cancer Treatment are located to the east. This zoning facilitates clear way-finding and promotes functionality of clinical areas thus enhancing the overall patient/visitor and staff experience. Numerous courtyards, deliberate views to the exterior, green roofs and a winter garden allow a constant integration of nature within the facility. Sustainable materials are used wherever feasible to create a facility rooted in environmental awareness and sensitivity. The building form is sensitively designed to complement the existing Center for Health Building, taking advantage of the available views and achieve best circulation and arrival venues. The Prairie Style exterior enclosure features a custom motif - the “unique identifier” that is specific to the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and is based on the Planetree symbol of the Sycamore Tree. This key design element alludes to the basic premise of the hospital’s mission in providing a patient-focused and friendly environment. As such, this unique custom motif is articulated in the details of the façade and key interior destinations. |
